Carmen Quintessentiæ
« Back to Epics
This epic poem is inspired by that great masterpiece of French cinema, Besson's The Fifth Element. Now, this is one of those films that is equally reviled and loved (you can take a guess which side I'd take, and you'd probably be wrong), either because it's so weird and strange that it must be good (those Eurotrash know what they're talking about, right?), or because it's good despite its weirdness and crazy Gaultier costumes, Chris Tucker, and other assorted crap that only a diseased mind of a freedom-hating Frenchie could produce (God bless Amurrika and Michael Bay!).
Well, I say, screw all that wishy-washy pseudo-intellectual crap! Either say outright the movie sucked (which it definitely didn't), or if you liked it, stop justifying it with above sort of tripe. The movie's got all the makings of an ass-kicking epic, and if you didn't realise it at first, I'm pretty sure this poem will make you see the error of your ways – it might also make your penis larger and help you earn money from home, but it will likely just make you waste twenty minutes of your life.
Now with moo.fx awesomeness, making it easier to read, flip through the pages to read the first eight sections of the epic.
I: Prologue
O! Daystar burning
'pon dreary sands descended
bellow the beasts! roars resounding!
with wizened hands, a servant of stars
the water bewitches! bane of th' bold
For fearless fools, afar from light
and air, cower in sanctums of Kemet!
secrets seeking of fell lords
and knowledge fateful
to waken the woe!
But th' bidden servant thwarts the seekers,
protects the proof of starry sires
who Eden's bliss of eons born
vouchsafed verily
Stonés entrusting
And the hour comes! awful comeliness
of Titanic chariots from celestial heights
hastily descending
on parchéd plains
to reclaim their own: the stones 'lemental
The Lords return, in rush revealed
in golden skins of slumbering beasts
divine guardians, distant guides
for light and life
to death departing...
§
II: Deathshade Returns
In darkness primeval, deftly parting
the swarms of stars, barques so boastful
leap through time
and space abyssal
to face a foe: fear upon them!
For darts atomic, daggers of 'Heimer
meet not their mark
in Nothing's abyss; feeding on fear
Death Eternal engorges on dying
souls of sailors
Towers of thunder in silent abodes
of eternal night fall as leaves
the Titans of steel
before Shadow are shamed
Might against Night naught becoming
III: The Servant Resurgent
Voices extinguished languish in horror
in halls remote beyond the stars
as fading sounds of silent screams
summon the servant
to answer the call
Before the wisdom and might so humbled
the Ashen servant an answer delivers
speaking of Lords and stones 'lemental
in twenty heartbeats
to enhearten the beaten
But Alas! Their coming curtailed in spite
by sold out souls; the dragon's teeth
who honour and glory purchased with gore
borrowed swords
to bleed the blameless
IV: In Death Reborn
Yet in fiery fall of divine coming
the precious flesh by folly felled
still, in gauntlet of golden steel
remains so restive
a puissance resplendent
By skilled arts of healers so hale
the felled flesh is brought to being
a perfect vessel of power so bold
in vaulted chambers
to life returning
But life renewed with fear awakens
among strangers and sights
wonderous and wide
a soul of eons with eyes of babes
danger foresees; to freedom diving!
V: Corvinus
Leaping lightly from lofty towers
of Eboracum ancient through time ascended
into breathless airs and clouds of light
her Supreme Being
for its depths so destined
But second deathfall is not her fate
but falling in flight to find her hope
a golden carriage for wandering souls
in thunderous tumult
to be adjoining
Corvinus brave of battle born
a ferryman fated by greater doom
in carriage golden twixt golden airs
one Life preserves
which all Life protects
VI: Vitum Quaero
Corvinus brave 'pon angel of beauty
gazes agape with smitten heart
a Divine Tongue, a speech of ages
fast and flowery
from'er lips unfolding
From words unknown in whispers revealed
from emerald eyes the soldier reads
her solemn entreaty, the hope of Hope
pleading for a priestly
'Cornelius Vito'
Corvinus Raven-named rushes to aid
his fainting fare from heavens decended
dying so hard by Cupid's dart he
thus seeks th' servant
whom she bid him divine
VII: Leeloo
A knight of old, now Charon to living
in arms of might Corvinus carries
The Supreme Being, his fated fare
her eyes of heaven
his heart enslaving
Yet knowing not her nature true
through Cornelius' door, Corvinus thunders
asking petulant, for Vito the priest,
who in arms of a smiter
Life's Shield beholds!
For in fiery fall of Guardians godly
Vito thence saw all hopés ending
dour and despondent 'pon Corvinus glances
but in gallant arms
his Hope now sees!
VIII: Leeloo Revealed
Noah's raven returnéd not
no branch of oliv' oleous bringing,
but this yon Raven with starry treasure
to Vito's herm valiant
lands resplendent
And waking her warily with a-kiss stolen
so worshipful and timid from lips divine
in silence Corvinus awakens the dream
who dreaming of dying
to life awoke
To see her servant, Vito Sacerdos,
and Corvinus Charon, nay Prometheus verily
who light of Heaven in his hands embraced
brings joy so boundless
and Leeloo thus speaks!
And lo! her speech, a harmonious harp
of her deadly descent speaks so hast'ly
while Vito envigored words of yore
for Corvinus translates
a kindness to the kenless
to be continued...

2The Bald Bard
This is turning out to be a pretty complex movie overall, since it’s not exactly linear, but the next three parts are up, with more to come in the next few days.
(thanks, dude — it means a lot!)
